will.i.am Reveals New 3-D Printer in the Works That Uses Filament Made From Coke Bottles
ROCK HILL, SC—June 17, 2014—will.i.am, of The Black Eyed Peas, is making a splash in the 3-D printing market with a new 3-D printer, Ekocycle Cube. The printer’s cartridge is made in part from postconsumer recycled 20 oz PET plastic bottles.
According to 3D Systems, the Ekocycle Cube prints 70-micron high resolution at fast speeds and up to 6″ cubed in size, with ultra-fine supports for complex prints and a choice of easy auto settings or advanced settings. The Ekocycle Cube is a plug and play consumer 3-D printer for everyday use, and is priced at $1,199, and will be available at 3DS’ online consumer hub Cubify.
In an interview with The Guardian, will.i.am commented: “We will make it cool to recycle, and we will make it cool to make products using recycled materials. This is the beginning of a more sustainable 3-D printed lifestyle. Waste is only waste if we waste it.”
