Valpak Announces Plans to Hire 100 Veterans by 2013
LARGO, FL—March 28, 2012—Valpak, a leader in local print and digital coupons, announced a commitment to hire 100 veterans by the end of 2013. With the recent passing of the VOW to Hire Veterans Act, a national bill to encourage businesses to hire military veterans, the company plans to recruit veterans to join its sales team.
According to recent studies, military candidates interested in sales have advantages over non-military job candidates when it comes to key sales traits including cordial communication style, competitive approach and accountability for core business results.
“With more than 40,000 troops expected to return from Iraq, joining another 2.3 million veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, employing the veteran community is a top priority for Valpak,” said Rick McElwain, vice president of network sales development at Valpak. “Veterans possess key traits and high-skill levels beneficial to any employer, and we look forward to welcoming our returning heroes to join our sales team.”
According to a recent study, military candidates interested in sales actually score higher than non-military when it comes to having key sales traits:
- Cordial communication style - 66% vs. 50%
- Competitive approach - 59% vs. 43%
- Accountability for core business results - 69% vs. 55%
- Focus on near-term results through incremental gains - 65% vs. 52%
In addition to recruiting veterans for its sales team, Valpak has committed to supporting veterans through involvement in the International Franchise Association's (IFA) VetFran program and will waive start-up fees, making it easier for veterans to start their franchise business. This saving is estimated at approximately $32,500.
With almost 170 franchises throughout North America, Valpak can offer veterans a proven track record as a trusted franchisor, a suite of print and digital products and support structure to foster franchisee success. A leader in cooperative direct mail, Valpak mails more than 20 billion coupons to more than 40 million households per month.
In addition to its flagship blue envelope coupon mailer, the brand provides its business customers an impressive portfolio of digital products, including Valpak Deals, Smartphone apps, QR Codes, print-at-home Internet coupons and SMS/text messaging to reach consumers at home and on-the-go.
