LAWRENCE, MA—The paper may be long gone, but fire seems to keep finding the former Merrimac Paper plant here following Monday's fire that caused the roof to collapse, according to MyFoxBoston.com. It was the third time since 2009 that the century-old structure had caught fire.
Fire crews from six stations were called upon to battle the blaze, which broke out around 4 p.m. Initial reports say the fire emanated from the front section of the structure, which also caught fire in 2009 and 2010.
The building has been vacant since 2005, when the paper mill closed, according to MyFoxBoston.com. Property taxes are nearly $4 million in arrears, the Eagle Tribune reported.
An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the fire.
