Transcontinental Transmag and Seattle Times Tap Nela

July 2008
OAKDALE, MN--July 25, 2008--Two more North American printers decide on NELA equipment to automate and control their plate flow in the prepress department.

NELA is proud to be one of the partners of Transcontinental Transmag on their new press project in Montreal, Canada. The NELA system will vision register, punchbend and inspect plates exiting three (3) CTP devices. With the help of NELA NPS Barcode & Page Tracking Software, the plates will be then transported to the quiet room next to the press consoles. Plates destined for the upper press deck will be navigated by a plate lift onto a multi-bin plate stacking system positioned next to the press units.

"We are excited to work with Transcontinental Transmag on this automation project that handles plates all the way to the press.", says David Klein, President of NELA. "This system will allow Transcontinental to maximize their plate through-put and quality and offers them a more efficient way of plate handling."

The installation will start in December of 2008.

Another exciting plate automation project will start soon at the Seattle Times. Two NELA Evolution vision punch benders will vision register 600 plates per hour that have been imaged by two KRAUSE LS Jet CTP devices. The NELA plate sortation system with 54 single-wide storage bins will sort the plates based on the custom configuration specifically designed to fit the needs of the Seattle Times. The NELA Status center will monitor the entire system from the CTP to the processors, vision benders and plate sortation system. Plate count, preheat temperature, developer temperature, plate through-put speed and feedback to the front-end system are all displayed and managed on one screen. The anticipated completion date for this installation is November 2008.
