WESTAMPTON, NJ—Muller Martini and MBO America recently held a joint bindery customer expo at MBO’s headquarters. The event attracted more than 250 participants.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has issued the first international safety standard for printing press systems: ISO 12648:2003 Graphic technology—Safety requirements for printing press systems. The standard was developed by ISO Technical Committee 130 (TC 130) Working Group 5 (Safety and Ergonomics). The committee is administered by NPES The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies with NPES Vice President William K. “Kip” Smythe and Director of Standards Programs Mary Abbott serving as convener and secretary, respectively.

Dauphin Graphic Machines announced that Brian LaBine has joined the company as president. Chris Lunt assumed the role of CEO. LaBine previously served as vice president of operations at Quebecor World’s Retail Group and, prior to that, worked for Rockwell/Goss in a variety of sales and management positions. In addition, as part of a restructuring of the sales department, regional sales agents now report directly to the company through Dave Moreland, vice president of sales and marketing.

Kodak Polychrome Graphics reports it plans to continue its support of higher education, after donating more than $166,000 worth of technology and equipment to graphic arts colleges and universities in 2002. Institutions such as Arizona State University, California Polytechnic State University, Clemson University and Rochester Institute of Technology have received donations from KPG. In other news, Rob Pipe has been appointed as director, worldwide color proofing business. Pipe previously served as worldwide product manager, color proofing.

Heidelberg USA and graphic designer Charles Spencer Anderson, owner of Charles S. Anderson Design and CSA Images, are partnering to educate the creative community about digital design using variable data. Anderson and Heidelberg will also team up for industry events and projects that demonstrate to designers, print buyers and printers the range of applications and business opportunities that digital printing technology has to offer.
