Printer Killed While Saving Girlfriend
LEXINGTON, KY—A holiday turned to tragedy for the co-owner of a printing facility who sacrificed his life for the safety of his girlfriend. Roy Stout, 57, was struck and killed by an automobile in Negril, Jamaica, on Feb. 4 after pushing Cheryl Gillenwater out of the vehicle’s path, WLEX-TV in Lexington, KY, reported.
Mr. Stout and his brother, Jerry, operated Stout Printing in Lexington for 34 years. Jerry Stout called his late brother the “heart of the business” and the best printer in Lexington. He plans to keep the shop open.
“We’ll try to keep it going in his memory, but it will be a challenge,” Jerry Stout told WLEX. “He had a lot of friends and they won’t forget him.”
Jerry Stout added that it was “just like his brother” to put the welfare of others first. Gillenwater suffered two broken legs and was transported home to a Lexington hospital. The driver of the car reportedly faces manslaughter charges.
Mr. Stout also had a stint as a child actor in the 1950s, appearing on The Shorty Stout Show. The show, which was hosted by his father, the late H.H. Stout, aired on WLEX. The elder Stout performed as a singing cowboy.
