Segerdahl Corp. adds Goss Automatic Transfer Web Press

July 2008
WHEELING, IL—July 14th, 2008—Segerdahl Corp., a pioneer in direct mail applications, will again break new ground with a new large-format Goss web press system with non-stop production and in-line finishing capabilities.

The company will add a seven-unit Sunday 4000 web press with Automatic Transfer and Autoplate technologies at its facility in Wheeling, Illinois in early 2009. The press system will feature a 75 x 45.5 inch cylinder configuration and be equipped with in-line finishing components from Scheffer Web Finishing.

John Romita, vice president of manufacturing at Segerdahl, says the new press system will be unique in the direct mail industry and reflects the company’s continuous focus on new, creative production capabilities. “We always look at things that aren’t being done and figure out how to do them to allow our customers to produce high-impact products, save time and money, and ultimately improve the effectiveness of their marketing efforts,” he explains.

Romita says the large format of the double-circumference Goss Sunday press, combined with the Scheffer in-line finishing system, will deliver high productivity as well as versatility.

With the Goss Automatic Transfer system, operators can bring one printing unit or group of units on impression while simultaneously taking another unit or group of units off impression, allowing continuous production without stopping the press for job changes.

“The ability to change jobs on the fly with the Automatic Transfer technology is something that only Goss International offers,” according to Romita. “This kind of innovation will make some new products and new production scenarios possible for our customers.”

Goss International will equip the Sunday press system at Segerdahl with a Contiweb FD paster with 60-inch roll diameter capacity, an Ecocool dryer with integrated chill rolls and Goss Web Center digital workflow modules.

‘Goss’, the Goss logo, ‘Goss International’, ‘Sunday’, ‘Automatic Transfer’, ‘Autoplate’, ‘Contiweb’, ‘FD’, ‘Ecocool’, and ‘Goss Web Center’ are registered trademarks or trademarks of Goss International Corporation.
