Johnson & Quin Greening Through and Through

NILES, IL—Implementing green initiatives is an ongoing endeavor at Johnson & Quin, which, as a leading printer and direct mail services provider, is continually pumping up its efforts to transition from green to greener still. The company has made it a priority to generate cleaner output that is easy on the environment—and its clients’ budgets.

Johnson & Quin’s green initiatives include: obtaining FSC certification; offering recycled and certified paper; reducing paper waste, while saving customers money and maximizing response rates; integrating eco-friendly inks; upgrading facilities with green equipment and processes; making its offices more eco-friendly; improving in-office waste recycling and adding more plastics recycling; assessing packaging materials that are more environmentally friendly; forging partnerships with eco-friendly suppliers; and using alternative power sources that make print production greener and more affordable.

The U.S. EPA’s Energy Star Program, which works to improve energy efficiency, announced a new member: Louisville, KY-based FetterGroup, which includes FetterLabel and FetterCMD.

The New Jersey Business & Industry Association, the nation’s largest statewide employer association, selected Carlstadt, NJ-based Pictorial Offset to receive its 2008 Award for Excellence in the Environmental Quality category.

Gaithersburg, MD-based Herron Printing is converting to 100 percent wind power.

Green Accolades

PROVIDENCE, RI—Gilbert Design was recently presented with the Mohawk Windpower Partnership Award for its sustainable initiatives in the design of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) viewbook, printed on FSC-certified Mohawk Options, which is produced using 100 percent wind-powered energy offset with Renewable Energy Certificates.

Sustainable Media Solutions Explored

BOSTON—The Green Media Show Conference and Expo, sponsored by SustainCommWorld, was held in October at the Marriott Copley Place, drawing more than 400 attendees from five countries.
