New UV Web Press Off to Big Start at MCW Printing

LOUISVILLE, KY—After a year of preparation, MCW Printing debuted its new Manugraph DGM 440 web offset press equipped with UV curing capabilities. MCW is a publications printer and publisher that produces 45 monthly regional farming and equipment magazines.

According to Philip Blair, general manager, pre-installation work included floor reconstruction, putting in new electrical transformers, installing a new air conditioning unit for the renovated pressroom, purchasing new software and numerous other upgrades.

MCW Printing held an open house to celebrate the launch of the new press, and hundreds of printers from a three-state area attended the event and got to see the new Manugraph DGM in action.



Padgett Open House Celebrates 12-Color Press

DALLAS—To celebrate the arrival of its new 12-color Heidelberg Speedmaster SM102 12-P press, Padgett Printing hosted an open house with the theme of “Twelve—A New Perspective.” The celebration was attended by Padgett customers and prospects, as well as the company’s owners, executives and sales team. Heidelberg President Jim Dunn was also there and made a presentation about the new 12-color press, outlining its capabilities.

Padgett Printing is a full-service provider, offering both sheetfed and web printing, desktop publishing, electronic prepress, short-run/custom digital printing and mailing services.



Sappi Honors International Printers of The Year

BOSTON—The Sappi International Printers of the Year awards is where printers from around the world are honored for their craftsmanship and print excellence. The competition attracts more than 6,000 entries. This year, 32 finalists from 12 countries competed across nine categories, which were judged by an independent panel of print experts.

One printer from the United States received a 2007 Sappi award. Insync Marketing Solutions (formerly Graphic Press), City of Commerce, CA, won in the Brochures category for its entry, “2007 Escalade Big Book,” which was recognized by the judges for its “well-controlled depth of color...good use of short insert sheets. . .and the obvious extra work in the prepress preparation.”



Walle Corp., a label supplier to the beverage, food and household products industry, has appointed Sean Keeney to succeed (his grandfather) Cecil Keeny as CEO. Cecil Keeny, who purchased the Harahan, LA-based company in 1980, is retiring after 25 years of service with Walle Corp.

Willem Nieuwboer has been appointed as the new chief technology officer and vice president of GFX International, Grayslake, IL. Before joining GFX, a marketing-at-retail design and production firm, Nieuwboer worked with Fortune 100 companies including Adidas, Perrier, Coca-Cola, Apple, Disney and IBM.
