Themed Sales Contest Adds Political Spin

STUART, FL—Southeastern Printing recently hosted an annual awards dinner and kick-off contest for its sales, production and management personnel. After awards were given out to several sales representatives, guests gathered in the parking lot to see who was arriving inside a black stretch limousine adorned with presidential seals and escorted by a police car. Out emerged President George W. Bush impersonator John Morgan, with two “Secret Service” agents by his side.

After addressing the crowd and singing a few songs, the “President” announced the theme of Southeastern’s new contest, called “Decision ’08—You Can Make A Difference,” and introduced each appointed party member with a brief “roast.” Sales reps were designated as either members of the blue “Sailfish Party” or the red “Dolphin Party,” and were given custom embroidered shirts to wear to weekly sales meetings. Baltimore-based Vertis Communications has named Oscar Padilla director of interactive services. Padilla comes to Vertis from Mindshare Interactive Campaigns, and is now responsible for directing and executing the company’s new media strategy.

The Michigan Printing Week Association held its 25th annual dinner and awards banquet recently and named Jonathan Strager, president of Madison Heights, MI-based The EGT Group, the recipient of the Ben Franklin Award for Individual of the Year.

Carlos Ayala has been promoted to general manager at Dallas-based Dallas Offset, a non-heatset web printing company. Ayala joined Dallas Offset in 1980 and has served in a number of positions beginning in what was then the stripping department.

The Printing Industries Association of Southern California (PIASC) has named Denny Shorett, president and CEO of Crown Printers in San Bernardino, CA, as the PIASC’s 2008 Executive of the Year and the recipient of its Ben Franklin Award. PI
