BindTech Enhances Perfect Binding Capabilities NASHVILLE, TN—BindTech, a full-service book manufacturer based here, recently acquired a Muller Martini Bolero perfect binder to help satisfy the varied and growing needs of its clientele.

“We needed more capacity to enhance our abilities to satisfy customer needs, but we also wanted additional diversification and a way to produce books faster and more economically,” explains Dale Nichols, president of BindTech. Nichols says that he needed a binder that could be tailored with an adhesive binding configuration that would be specifically advantageous to BindTech’s business strategies.

The 8,000 cph Bolero offers a wide range of adhesive binding technology, including hot melt or PUR in perfect bound, layflat or book blocks for casing-in, as well as sewn books. In addition, the binder offers a JDF/JMF-ready interface, and fully automated operation and motorized/digital makeready.

BindTech’s configuration includes a Muller Martini Frontero face trimmer, which produces gatefolded brochures and books in a single pass; a Quako quality control system, ASIR III camera technology (combines barcode recognition and image comparison); and end-sheet tipping technology.

Seeking Product of Excellence Entries

SEWICKLEY, PA—The Binding Industries Association (BIA) has announced its 2009 Product of Excellence Awards and call for entries. Binderies and printers are invited (and encouraged) to submit their best work to be judged against that of their peers in this world’s-only binding and looseleaf competition.

Winning the award assures industry recognition of the achievement, as well as capturing the attention of colleagues, customers and partners, who want to know which printer/bindery produced a product that is deemed to be “the best of the best.”
