Sowing Seeds of Interest in Printing PENNSAUKEN, NJ—To create interest in printing industry careers, CRW Graphics recently invited graphic design students from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia to tour its 47,000-square-foot printing facility here.

“One of the greatest challenges facing the printing industry today is the scarcity of young people interested in entering the field,” says Joe Petrilli, CRW’s vice president of manufacturing. “But, we’ve found a way to generate such interest”—by hosting student field trips.

Petrilli was one of several CRW employees who spoke to the students about the printing process, which included information about the company’s newest technology, a digital press used for short-run work.

Added Capabilities Inspire Name Change

CLAYTON, NC—3C Packaging recently purchased a Vijuk MV-2005 outsert system with the new 14-plate G&K FA 53 folder, which folds outserts with up to 150 panels and as small as 1-1⁄8×1-1⁄8?. Formerly the Colonial Cartoning Co., 3C Packaging changed its name to reflect its new capability of printing and folding inserts and outserts.

“We purchased the MV-2005 as part of our business and plant expansion plan,” notes Joe Elphick, 3C Packaging president and CEO. “The new folding capability has already given us an entrée to packaging for several new pharmaceutical companies.”


BIRMINGHAM—American Printing announced that it has purchased a new eight-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102, equipped with anilox rollers and an extended delivery, and an Agfa Delano prepress system. It has also opened an Atlanta sales office.


POMONA—A new Presstek 34DI digital offset press is up and running at Cal Poly’s Graphic Communication Department. The DI press will help meet the department’s increased demand for full-color printing.


BUNNELL—To increase production of on-demand books, Dolphin Printing & Design has installed a new Xerox 700 digital color press.
