The Research & Engineering Council of the National Association for Printing Leadership has named Scott Repa, pressroom operations manager at Brown Printing, East Greenville, PA, its third Pressroom Operations Manager of the Year.

Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA, has appointed Kevin Cooper, former executive with RR Donnelley, as an assistant professor in the Graphic Communication Department. Cooper comes to Cal Poly with more than 20 years of executive-level experience in the graphic communication industry. His teaching assignments will include strategic management, human resources, supervision and web printing technologies. Also, Michael Cunningham, founder and former CEO and president of Cunningham Graphic International has joined Cal Poly's Graphic Communication Department as a "Research Professor From Industry." The research professorship is an honorary title given to industry professionals who volunteer their time to teach.

Advance Business Graphics, Mira Loma, CA, has announced the promotion of Dan Ablett and Joel Marks. Ablett will now serve as senior vice president of sales and marketing, while Marks assumes the role of vice president, operations. Also, Gary Joslin has joined the company as senior vice president of administration and finance.

HAPSCO Design and Printing Services, of Harrisburg, PA, announced the appointment of Jennifer Apa to the position of account representative. Apa has more than 12 years of experience in printing sales, production and staffing.

Northstar Marketing Communications Group, Kulpsville, PA, has added Louis Titano to its staff of direct marketing experts in the capacity of estimating manager. Most recently, he served as the customer services supervisor for printing services at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Lester Samuels, a managing partner at Pictorial Offset in Carlstadt, NJ, has been selected to receive the Florence & Leo Joachim Award at the New York Chapter of Printing House Craftsmen's Printing Week Dinner this month.

The National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL) has installed four new directors on its board: James Dunn, president, Heidelberg USA, Kennesaw, GA; Dean Hanisko, vice president, strategic development, Great Lakes Integrated, Cleveland; Tim Poole, president, Dome Printing, Sacramento, CA; and Brad Stiers, president/CEO, Pacific Printing, Fresno, CA.

Nationwide Graphics/Premier Print, a Houston-based printing consolidator, reports that Larry Cook has joined the company as vice president of sales. He previously worked for Wallace and Alliance Data Systems. Also, John Ahearn has been appointed president of H&D Graphics, a Nationwide Graphics Miami division.

Print Manage, Baltimore, recently expanded to add in-house digital marketing and Web-to-print capabilities to its 25-year-old business. To drive business for this new division, Print Manage hired William Pate as the vice president of business development/ technology and Mark Shellhaas as design integration guru.

Trade bindery and finisher Rapid Bind, Portland, OR, has promoted Henry Rico from accounting assistant to customer service representative.

Custom Printing, based in Oxnard, CA, has hired veteran printing sales rep Mark Freie.

Uptown Press, Baltimore, has hired Chester "Chet" Ruby Jr. as its vice president of operations. He has more than 34 years of experience in the printing industry, including time at DLT Direct.

Steven Zuccarini, former president of global solutions with RR Donnelley, was named CEO of InnerWorkings, an enterprise print management and outsourcing firm. Another former Donnelley exec, John Walter, is chairman.

Richard Patterson has joined Rochester, NY-based Monroe Litho's marketing/sales division as an account executive. He has previously been associated with Eastman Kodak, Xerox Corp. and Applied Mechanical Technologies.

Vertis, a provider of targeted advertising, media and marketing services based in Baltimore, announced the appointment of Joe Scott as senior vice president of sales for North America. Prior to joining Vertis, Scott was director of global strategic outsourcing sales competency for IBM.

Jim Hopkins, president and CEO of Hopkins Printing, Columbus, OH, was inducted as a Laureate into the Central Ohio Business Hall of Fame.

Robert Yaquinto Printing announced several changes. Former Vice President Katie Yaquinto Karl has been named president. Former General Manager Neil Clements has been named vice president of manufacturing and Robert Yaquinto remains CEO.
