The Worldwide Printing Thermographers Association (WPT) has announced the winners of its 8th annual Excellence in Thermography Contest—the FREDDIEs. Ink & Paper Magic Makers won the 2005 Fred Nicotera Award for "Best of the Best" acknowledging excellence in ensemble of letterhead, envelopes and business cards, thermographed with an additional process. FREDDIE awards were awarded to the following companies: Anderburg-Lund Printing, St. Louis Park, MN; Artco, Rexburg, ID; Birchcraft Studios, Rockland, MA; Business Card Inc., Tullahoma, TN; Carlson Craft Business Solutions, North Mankato, MN; Dewberry Engraving, Birmingham, AL; DOT Thermography, Addison, TX; Flashcards Inc., Austin, TX; Ink & Paper Magic Makers, Arlington, TX; Jansson, Milford, MA; Northeast Thermography, Wallingford, CT; Regency Thermographers, Waynesboro, PA; Tatex Thermographers, Waco, TX; Utley Brothers, Troy, MI; and West Texas Printing, Brownwood, TX.
TAGA, The Technical Association of the Graphic Arts, has entered into an administrative relationship with the Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF), moving its headquarters to PIA/GATF headquarters in Sewickley, PA. TAGA has also joined The Print Council as an associate member. In other news, the association will extend TAGA student chapters to additional colleges and universities worldwide.
Officials at Custom Printing, Oxnard, CA, report that the company is exceeding 30,000 pounds of trimout per week for recycling as part of its Custom Printing Green Project.
