Chicago Press has named Paul Monsen COO. He will continue to serve as the company's vice president of sales, as well. Monsen joined the 75-year-old Chicago-based firm in 1999 and became an officer in 2000.
Anthony Parker has been appointed COO of Smyth Companies, Bedford, VA. Parker began his career with Piedmont Label in 1990. He joined Smyth in 1998 after Smyth acquired Piedmont Label.
Naperville, IL-based Solar Communications has added two high-level development roles. John Barrett and John Waterhouse have both accepted positions as vice president, business development.

CRW Graphics of Pennsauken, NJ, has announced the addition of four members to its management staff. Ed Morvay is now vice president of sales. Joe Petrilli has been named vice president of manufacturing. Bob Reilley takes the post of prepress manager. Will Glassman will serve as vice president of sales and marketing. All four employees previously were employed by Philadelphia-based Phototype Color Graphics.
Green Printing & Packaging, Lexington, NC, has named Don Huttlin as its new president. He replaces Leonard Beck. Huttlin previously was East region vice president for Mail-Well.
Banta Corp. has announced four key appointments at its corporate offices in Menasha, WI. Ginger Jones has joined the company as corporate controller. Robert Keller was named corporate director of compensation and benefits. JoRae Galli has filled the position of corporate director of human resources. Also, Patricia Look has been promoted to compensation and benefits manager.
The National Association for Printing Leadership's (NAPL) Soderstrom Society will honor Ken Garner, president and COO of United Litho, Ashburn, VA, as the recipient of the 42nd annual Walter E. Soderstrom Award at its annual dinner meeting in October.
Panel Prints of Old Forge, PA, has named James Burk as its vice president of sales and marketing. He previously served as vice president of Seven World Color.
Ray Roper, president and CEO of Printing Industries of America, has been named the Graphic Arts Leaders of the Americas (GALA) North American Award recipient for 2003 by the Printing Industries of Florida (PAF). Roper will receive the award during Graphics of the Americas 2003, held in Miami Beach in January. In other news, PAF has named Holly Price as South Florida regional manager.
Segerdahl Graphics, a privately held company based in Wheeling, IL, and member of The Segerdahl Group, was recently incorporated by the merging of three individual group companies: Columbia Graphics, e-PreMedia Services and Falcon Communications. In other news, Ron Losoya has been hired and added to the sales staff.
Holt Barber is the newest member of the growing sales and marketing staff at Triangle Printers, Skokie, IL.
Privately owned Geographics has named Ron Lanio, former vice president of sales and marketing, to the role of executive vice president. Lanio joined Atlanta-based Geographics in 2001 after serving a president of Colormark.
Mitchell Graphics, based in Petoskey, MI, recently appointed Mark Potter to the position of vice president of technology. Potter has been with the company for six years in a variety of roles.
Frank Woods, president and co-founder of Woods Lithographics in Phoenix, retired from the company in June. Woods and his wife Barbara founded Woods Lithographics in 1978. His son, Steve, will continue with the company as president.
Linda Parker has joined Pomco Graphic Arts in Philadelphia as senior account executive. Prior to joining Pomco, Parker was vice president of Centennial Printing.
Don Walstrom has joined General Litho Services, Brooklyn Park, MN, as an account executive. He was formerly employed by PrimeNet Marketing Services.
Dave Pauley, president of Neyenesch Printers, has been re-elected as chairman of the board of the Printing Industries Association of San Diego (PIA/SD). The elected officers include: Bill Anderson, president of Precision Litho, vice chairman; Nicholas Aguilera, president of Diego & Son Printing, secretary/treasurer; and Arthur Hill, owner of Press Plus remains immediate past chairman. Joining the board of directors are Jocelyn Boehm, production director of Heritage Printing/Marcoa Publishing, and John Barros, owner of San Diego Printers.
Tim McAdow has been appointed Southern region vice president of sales for the Banta Book Group. He has been with the company since 1988.
The Printing Industry Association of the South (PIAS) has named David Langhans, owner of Mid South Press, Franklin, TN, as its chairman. Officers elected for 2002-2003 include Forrest Adair, of McComb Printing, McComb, MS, first vice chairman; Frank Parke, of Democrat Printing & Litho, Little Rock, AR, second vice chairman; Dennis Reed, of V.G. Reed & Sons, Louisville, KY, secretary/treasurer; and Charles "Corky" Horrell, of Cardinal Printing, New Albany, IN, immediate past chairman. Also, the association has named Nicholas Simon, president of Publishers Printing, Shepherdsville, KY, as its 2002 Person of the Year.
Davidson Printing of Duluth, MN, has named David Youngquist as its president. He replaces Bill Abene, who will serve as chairman of the board. Prior to joining Davidson, Youngquist had been president of Print Consultants.
Standard Register of Dayton, OH, has appointed Charles Simmons vice president of sales for its Document Management strategic business unit. He now leads 600 field sales associates. Simmons previously served as senior vice president of sales with Divine Inc.
Pratt Corp. has welcomed Paul McMahon to the roll of controller. For the past four years, McMahon has served as plant controller and business unit controller for Delco Remy. Pratt Corp., based in Indianapolis, is a full-service point-of-purchase and visual merchandising company.
Chuck Klein is now CEO of Merit Printing, following the retirement of Warren Chapman, founder of the company. Klein, who has served as president of the Minneapolis-based company for the past two years, was hired in 1983 as an entry-level press operator.
Blanks Color Imaging of Dallas has announced several promotions and assignments. Patrick Flynn has been promoted to the position of executive vice president and general manager. Mark Connor has joined the company as vice president of sales and marketing. Bryan Gooding is now operations manager. Jaymee Harding will serve as administrative manager. Mike Fiorentino has been promoted to digital imaging production supervisor. Greg Shaw has joined the company as a pressroom manager. Finally, Paul Sierra is now fulfillment manager.
Mail-Well Envelope announced that Sandy Moyer has been promoted from vice president of marketing and sales to executive vice president of Exton, PA-based International Envelope. In the new position, she will have overall responsibility for all IEC envelope operations, including leading the growth of the company. IEC, a manufacturer of specialty envelopes and specialty paper products, is a subsidiary of Mail-Well Envelope. Moyer has served IEC since 1984 in a variety of marketing roles.
Phoenix Press of New Haven, CT, has appointed Dawn Pearce to the position of account executive. She will represent the company in the Northeast market. She most recently served the company as manager of logistics.
Proforma honored its top 10 preferred commercial print vendors at its annual convention. Reflection Printing was honored with the Gold Award in this category. Brut Printing took home the Silver Award, while the Bronze Award went to Dupli-Systems. The other seven companies honored with awards were: GCI Digital Imaging; FSI Products; Independent Printing; Mail-Well Mid-Atlantic Print Group; News Printing; Total Printing Systems; and Western Press. Also, Jay Vento, owner of Proforma Spectrum Graphics, was honored with the first ever Co-CEO Champion award.
