Hickory, NC—6/18/07—Looking to expand its printing services, Catawba was attracted to the Presstek 52DI, due to its high level of automation, 300 lpi printing and 52cm format, making it ideal for the fast turnaround work that is the company’s bread and butter. Catawba Print & Mail only recently added “Print” to its name. The firm has a lettershop heritage and has historically worked jointly with printers on mailing projects.
“We print thousands of 4”x6” postcards that are messaged and addressed using our inkjetting equipment,” says owner L.F. Miller. “With the 52DI, we are able to print them 4-up, full bleed, and the first cards are off the press and ready for addressing within ten minutes. Our customers are delighted with the speed and quality. This press will revolutionize our business and take us to the next level.”
As printers increasingly offered mailing services, the company had added digital printing, leveraging its knowledge of variable data and thereby offering a turnkey print/mail package to its mailing customers. However, Catawba quickly found that it was not cost effective to print static pieces on its digital press. The Presstek 52DI fit the bill for Catawba without the complexity and space requirements of conventional offset and platemaking.
