PIA Members Recognized as Sustainable Green Printers

December 2008
PITTSBURGH—December 4, 2008—Printing Industries of America (PIA) is proud to have four of its members recognized as Sustainable Green Printers (SGP Printers) by the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP Partnership). Fineline, Pictura Graphics, the John Roberts Co., and the Pratt Corp. are among the first printers in the nation to have successfully completed the verification process and become officially recognized as SGP Printers.

Who Are They?
Fineline Printing Group is an Indianapolis-based, family-owned, full-service printing company founded in 1981. Its services include commercial business printing, direct mail, and e-business solutions.  Fineline Printing Group is a minority-owned business certified by the city of Indianapolis, state of Indiana, and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Pictura Graphics of Minneapolis, MN, is a large-format digital printer. The facility provides innovative custom graphics and display solutions for all marketing environments. It supplies dye-sublimation, direct-to-substrate, and digital photographic printing; along with custom finishing and digital imaging services, to customers nationwide.

The John Roberts Co. of Minneapolis, MN is a privately held commercial printer established in 1951. As a general commercial printer focusing on corporate identity products such as marketing collateral, direct mail, digital print on demand, storefront-based one-to-one marketing programs, catalogs, and specialty folded cartons;  John Roberts has always felt that being a proactive environmental citizen is just good business.

The Pratt Corp. of Indianapolis, IN is both a digital and screen printer. Pratt specializes in store-specific decor packages and promotional graphic kit roll-outs.

More than 65 Printers Have Initiated the Application Process Since August
Since opening the application process in late August 2008, more than 65 printers have begun the recognition process. After a complete application is approved, a verification audit is scheduled.

The SGP verification process is not just a checklist that must be completed for the applicant to be recognized -- it is a commitment to continuous improvement. Utilizing and embracing the approaches identified in the SGP Partnership has allowed printers to find many ways to reduce their environmental footprint, cut their operating costs, and cement their relationships with customers.
