New Harry Potter Book Going Green on Paper
March 2007
NEW YORK—Harry Potter takes down more trees than he does villains, but the final installment of the science fantasy thriller is showing its environmentally responsible side.
Potter publisher Scholastic has committed to using paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for the July release. The first print run of 12 million copies of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” will see 65 percent of the 16,700 tons FSC-certified, which means the paper comes from timberlands managed in a socially and environmentally responsible way.
All paper used in the printing will contain at least 30 percent post-consumer waste fiber.
