Muller Martini and Nipson Host Open House to Demonstrate Latest Digital Book Printing and Finishing Technologies

January 2007
HAUPPAUGE, NY—01/25/07—On March 7th, 2007, Muller Martini and Nipson America will present an open house featuring demonstrations of a complete OnDemand digital book printing and perfect binding line. The open house will take place at Muller Martini headquarters on Long Island. More than 1,200 attendees throughout the industry have been invited to the event.

During the open house, a full inline digital book printing and binding workflow will be demonstrated, comprised of two Nipson VaryPress 400 digital printers with unwinder, sheeter and stacker, a Shuttleworth Star RollerTM conveyor, and a Muller Martini SigmaBinder perfect binder, SigmaTower cooling tower and Esprit three-knife trimmer.

“We see 2007 as a transitional year for digital print manufacturing, during which the industry will fully realize what OnDemand technologies are capable of,” said Robert Stabler, President of Nipson America. “Nipson is proud to be on the leading edge of this transition, working together with innovative companies such as Muller Martini to showcase how digital production can be instrumental in helping printers and binders manufacture products with incredible speed while lowering the cost per printed page, enhancing versatility and increasing profit potential overall.”

“Today’s digital book manufacturing technologies are highly advanced, not only in terms of efficiency, but also when it comes to quality results. In fact, these latest systems can create books with a level of quality that is nearly equivalent to traditional perfect binding workflows,” said Werner Naegeli, President and CEO of Muller Martini Corp. “We are pleased to be partnering with Nipson America for this exciting open house event, providing the marketplace with a look at why OnDemand digital solutions should be an important element in the growth strategies of printing and binding operations both large and small.”

The Nipson VaryPress 400, which is based on Nipson’s unique magnetographic imaging and flash fusing processing, is the company’s latest generation digital printer – addressing the increasing demand for quality, high throughput, productivity and cost-effective flexibility.

The Muller Martini SigmaBinder produces perfect-bound books at up to 1,000 fully variable-sized copies per hour, with hotmelt utilized for separate spine and side gluing. Muller Martini’s SigmaTower ensures proper cooling of perfect bound books and optimal curing of adhesives. Muller’s Esprit Three-Knife Trimmer is the ideal complement for perfect binding systems. Esprit boasts automated make-ready to reduce changeover times and help lower costs in short runs.

The completely scaleable Muller Martini SigmaLine is the world’s first commercial-quality, totally modular, OnDemand digital book manufacturing solution, consisting of eight state-of-the-art modular components that are designed to be mixed and matched independently of one another or coordinated altogether as an entire digital system. Besides SigmaBinder and SigmaTower mentioned above, the full SigmaLine configuration also includes: SigmaPress, totally integrated within the SigmaLine system, providing continuous-feed operation and printing each job in a single pass. SigmaFolder, a commercial-grade folder that produces signatures with extremely high accuracy. SigmaCollator, which gathers the folded signatures and instantly delivers them to the SigmaBinder for finishing. SigmaStitcher, which produces up to 6,000 saddle-stitched products per hour and features fully automatic make-ready. And SigmaControl, which utilizes a JDF interface to combine and coordinate all functions of the printing and binding process.
