Mitsubishi Hosts Golf-themed Open House

LOS ANGELES—Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses (MLP U.S.A.) recently held a golf-themed open house here. Guests included clients and prospective customers representing commercial printers, trade shops and publishers from California, Oregon, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.

This was the first in a series of regional gatherings designed to give printers from each area of the country hands-on demonstrations of new developments in sheetfed perfecting technology, according to Randy Siver, business development manager.

Billed as "Diamond in the Rough," the event coincided with the recent launch of Mitsubishi's new 40˝ convertible perfector. The Diamond 3000R Double Diamond press is available in up to 12 units (five-over-five with two tower coaters). The coaters are located before the sheet-reversing unit and after the final printing unit, enabling the Double Diamond to print and coat both sides of the sheet in a single pass.

Visitors received in-depth tours at Lithographix Inc., Culver City-based Southern California Graphics and Media Lithographics in City of Commerce. All three printing facilities operate a mix of Mitsubishi sheetfed and web presses. Highlights included complete makereadies and job changeovers on both six-color and nine-color Diamond perfector presses.

Guests were welcomed by K.G. Katayama, president of Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses, and had an opportunity to meet other senior company executives, including Ray Mullen, vice president of sales and customer service for sheetfed presses; Ken Kodama, newly appointed corporate secretary and director of sales for sheetfed presses; and Dennis Dessilla, director of corporate financial administration.

Prior to the plant tours, John Santie, sheetfed product manager, and Frank Fruciano, Western regional sales manager, provided an overview of the Double Diamond press. The Mitsubishi representatives then explained how the new press addresses the productivity and profitability issues of commercial printers.

In keeping with the golf theme, the two-day event concluded with a round of golf at a seaside course and an informal awards luncheon to recognize participants.
