Mid-York Press to Add Bobst Expertcut and MasterfoldOctober 9, 2009
The Expertcut diecutter features the latest generation Power Register II for precise print to cut registration. Both of the new machines will be installed in Mid-York’s Sherburne finishing department which currently has four folder-gluers (including a Bobst Media 100/II A2 with a Handypack) and two Bobst SP 102-E II diecutters.
“One of our strategies is to constantly seek out new ways to reduce our costs through innovation and increased efficiencies without sacrificing quality,” says Robert Tenney, President & CEO of Mid-York Press. “The addition of these two new machines is a result of our desire and commitment to continually improve our processes and capabilities and control costs for our customers, all while, of course, maintaining or improving our quality goals.”
This will be the first Masterfold 110 A-2 with the Bobst Speedwave auto-bottom technology installed in North America. Speedwave gives Mid-York Press the ability to fold and glue auto-bottom boxes at much higher speeds than conventional auto-bottom folder-gluer configurations. Speedwave also minimizes change-over times between auto-bottom styles as well as auto-bottom to four or six-corner designs. “We run everything from small pharmaceutical boxes, to larger boxes for the food industries and just about everything in between,” says Tenney. “So we, and ultimately our customers, will benefit from the versatility as well as the speed and precision of this new folder-gluer.”
Mid-York’s Expertcut 106 PER is equipped with Power Register II – an intelligent sheet introduction system which uses photo-electric cell technology to determine the precise position of the sheet and then align it to within ±.01” (0.25mm) of the target. The Autoplaten diecutter is configured with Bobst Quick Lock chase system for fast change-over, inline blanking and stripping stations which eliminate the need for time consuming and wasteful offline or manual operations. The Expertcut has a top speed of 9,000 sheets per hour and can cut paper (.004” min), solid board (.030” max) and micro-flute corrugated board (.080” max).
