Meanwhile in San Francisco—2014 Gold Ink Entry
If San Francisco could talk, what would it say? That's the question that was asked in this Gold Ink Awards entry titled "Meanwhile in San Francisco." It was published and submitted by San Francisco-based Chronicle Books, and entered into the Book Jackets category. In this guide, illustrator Wendy MacNaughton captures the everyday life in the city in a very fun and engaging way, not missing a beat. The book jacket itself cleverly folds out into a poster with an illustration of the city skyline and some of the key highlights it has to offer listed in eye-catching fonts.
"Meanwhile in San Francisco" was printed on a Heidelberg sheetfed press in a run length of 5,000 copies. The French fold jacket was printed four-over-four on FSC-certified Golden Sun uncoated stock. The book jacket was also matte film laminated, one-side.
According to Alexandra Williams, lead production coordinator at Chronicle Books, the layout and folding of the book jacket were intricate. "A reversed French fold was used to reveal a section of the city line, and to also showcase the two surface textures—laminated folds and the uncoated city map."
