Latest Lucky Lottery Winners

November 2004
SEAFORD, DE—Perhaps offering mailing and fulfillment isn't the financial panacea this industry needs. Maybe everyone should just buy lottery tickets.

For the third documented time this year, members of the commercial printing industry have collected significant lottery jackpot prizes. The popular, multi-state Powerball game produced the second batch of printing millionaires in 2004, with 33 employees of Sussex Printing collecting the $117 million cash option payout from a $214.7 million jackpot.

The office pool winners were revealed to be workers at the Delaware printer by Georgetown, MD, tax attorney George Smith, according to the Associated Press. Smith said the winners would receive about $2.2 million each, after taxes.

When contacted by phone, a receptionist at Sussex Printing said that the winners did not wish to publicize their good fortune. She would not say if the new millionaires, which account for about three-quarters of Sussex Printing's workforce, had returned to work.

Sussex Printing publishes a weekly shopper called The Guide. It also offers a line of greeting cards and business cards.

For the printing industry, it's been a good year for playing the numbers. In January, 10 veteran members of Quebecor World's Montreal facility shared a C$17.5 million Super 7 Lotto jackpot. In late May, Jim and Tom Hare, owners of Hare Brothers Printing in Philadelphia, also hit the Powerball and took the cash option of $26.9 million.
