Kodak’s Discusses Digital Printing Solutions At INTERQUEST 2010 Digital Book ForumMarch 4, 2010
ROCHESTER, NY—03/04/2010—At the fifth annual INTERQUEST 2010 Digital Book Printing Forum, Kodak’s Eric Owen will discuss trends in the book market and ways that book publishers and printers can improve supply chain and operational efficiencies with Kodak’s digital book production solutions. Owen, Worldwide Market Development Director, Digital Printing Solutions for Kodak, will participate in the Leading Vendors Executive Panel from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. on March 9 at the New York Marriott Marquis Times Square.
“A series of trends in book publishing, such as shorter run lengths, supply chain waste, the popularity of e-books and the rise of self-publishing, has put the book market at a tipping point,” said Owen. “For publishers seeking a new business model based on these trends, our digital printing systems allow for efficient, just-in-time production of books for run-lengths up to 7,000. These digital solutions take costs out of the supply chain while delivering offset class quality.”
For print service providers, digital printing provides tremendous gains in productivity and flexibility to adapt to market changes. For publishers, the process of digitally printing short runs through just-in-time production helps reduce print overruns, which cuts down on obsolete products and the need for costly warehousing.
Kodak’s technologies and solutions for digital book production include the KODAK PROSPER Press Platform featuring KODAK Stream Inkjet Technology, KODAK NEXPRESS and NEXPRESS SE Digital Production Color Presses and the KODAK DIGIMASTER EX Production Platform.
Book printers will discuss how digital solutions such as these help transform their business during the Book Printers Progress Report Panel at 1:30 p.m. Participants include Jac Garner, President of Webcrafters, Inc., a nationally recognized book printer that continues to expand its digital print operations. The company will install a KODAK PROSPER 5000XL Press later this year to improve the management of low- to mid-volume book titles. Webcrafters’ digital print capabilities currently include three KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Presses for producing run lengths between one and 300.
“Webcrafters continually incorporates the latest digital print solutions from Kodak including NEXPRESS—and soon the PROSPER Press—which are key to enabling us to provide our customers the highest quality and best productivity,” said Garner. “With the PROSPER Press, we’ll be able to print more books in shorter runs and help publishers better manage their inventory.”
