Heidelberg Print Media Academy Publishes Two New Brochures

April 2007
HEIDELBERG, GERMANY—04/23/2007—The Print Media Academy (PMA) of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) offers tips from professionals for professionals, providing all print shop staff with fast, straightforward support in overcoming problems when printing. The tips, in the form of a booklet, also help prevent potential printing problems before they occur.

The latest issue, “Rollers in Inking and Dampening Systems” includes features on adjusting inking and dampening units, shore hardness, roller maintenance, and adjusting the ink sweep of the rollers. All technical terms are explained clearly so that even printers with limited experience can easily understand them.

“Profi Tip” is a free guide by the Print Media Academy. Issues entitled “Dampening Solutions in Offset Printing” and “Tips for Problem Cases in the Pressroom” have already been published in this series.

Behind the Scenes of a Successful Print Shop

“Behind the Scenes of a Successful Print Shop” is the latest title in the brochure series “Concepts & Solutions” from the Print Media Academy. In this publication, business consultant and author Erhard Ziesecke shows, by means of an ideal sample print shop, how strategic goals can consistently be implemented in business operations.

The brochure has been structured in the form of a dialog with questions and answers. It addresses the business principles and vision of the company, the resulting strategies and goals as well as their implementation, and even deals with personnel management. Another focus is the successful control and optimization of sales.

The series “Concepts & Solutions” is aimed at executives in the print media industry and print production managers from industry, commerce and the service sector.

Both publications are available free of charge from the relevant PMA contacts in the Heidelberg sales organizations.

A printing company’s financial success is probably most influenced by those decisions related to production activities. Production employs most of the firm’s personnel and requires, by far, most of its capital investment.

Printing Production Management provides a systematic treatment of the problem-solving aspects of production management that are so critical to efficient production and company profitability. Author Gary G. Field draws upon his unique combination of printing production experience—and university studies in quantitative analysis—to provide problem-solving insights into such areas as:

•	Plant capacity planning
•	Equipment investment analysis
•	Digital press scheduling strategies
•	Layout planning techniques
•	Production scheduling dynamics
•	Inventory optimization
•	Quality process analysis

The production problem-solving techniques presented here draw from the analytical methods used in finance, accounting, and industrial engineering disciplines. Worked examples and practice problems help develop the skills needed for reaching both long-term strategic production decisions and efficient day-to-day manufacturing solutions.
