GPO Seeks Digital Printing Equipment
WASHINGTON, DC—August 10, 2009—The U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) released a Request for Information (RFI) seeking opinions on advanced print technology used to produce Congressional and Federal agency publications. The RFI is looking for the types of new technology that will reduce paper waste and provide cost-effective solutions for short and medium-run jobs, such as the Congressional Record and Federal Register.
GPO would like to use these opinions to replace the agency’s aging and obsolete heavy metal equipment in the plant. The agency will hold an Industry Day at GPO headquarters in Washington, D.C. on September 9th to gather information from printing manufacturers and suppliers.
“GPO would like to save the American taxpayer money and help the environment at the same time. We can achieve this by replacing our antiquated equipment with technology that meets the printing needs of the 21st century,” said Public Printer Bob Tapella. “I look forward to hearing from printing manufacturers and suppliers on the types of technology that will help our plant achieve these goals.”
The GPO is the Federal Government’s primary centralized resource for gathering, cataloging, producing, providing, authenticating, and preserving published U.S. Government information in all its forms. GPO is responsible for the production and distribution of information products and services for all three Branches of the Federal Government.
