GPO Assists CDC in Providing the Public with Swine Flu Information

WASHINGTON, DC—April 30, 2009—As health officials cope with the outbreak of the swine flu, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) turn to the U.S. Government Printing Office’s (GPO) print procurement program for traveler informational cards. These cards will be handed out to travelers at airports, with international connections, explaining the symptoms of swine flu and the precautions the public should take. Nearly 42,000 cards have been printed in both English and Spanish.

“GPO’s print procurement program gives the CDC the maximum benefit and quick turn around needed to satisfy their printing needs during this outbreak,” said Public Printer Bob Tapella.  “GPO’s mission of Keeping America Informed has spanned nearly 150 years and the agency is ready to assist our federal customers, such as the CDC, in providing the public critical information during times of need.”
 
The GPO is the Federal Government’s primary centralized resource for gathering, cataloging, producing, providing, authenticating, and preserving published U.S. Government information in all its forms. GPO is responsible for the production and distribution of information products and services for all three Branches of the Federal Government.

In addition to publication sales, GPO makes Government information available at no cost to the public through GPO Access (www.gpoaccess.gov), and through partnerships with approximately 1,250 libraries nationwide participating in the Federal Depository Library Program.
