Fort Orange Press Completes $2 Million Upgrade, Including Komori Press

ALBANY, NY—Jan. 21, 2011—Fort Orange Press, one of the Capital Region’s leading sheetfed printing companies, announced the completion of its $2 million investment in new equipment and facility enhancements designed to increase efficiency, output and customer convenience. The largest part of the investment is the Komori six-color plus aqueous coating 40˝ printing press, featuring a closed-loop production workflow.

“Through this closed loop workflow, Fort Orange Press achieves much shorter makeready times, precise color accuracy and significantly less spoilage,” says Jamie Dickinson, vice president of production.

The press is the only 40˝ Komori press in the tri-city area. In the past six months, Fort Orange Press has already logged over 4 million impressions on the press, working 24-hour production shifts. The press allows for the most stringent color accuracy while achieving production speeds in excess of 15,000 impressions per hour.

According to President and CEO Robert F. Witko, “Because the Komori produces superior quality deliverables in a highly effective way, we are able to pass those gains in efficiency along to our customers—which is key during these challenging economic times.”

In addition, Fort Orange Press, an FSC certified printer, upgraded its electronic prepress workflow with the addition of an Agfa N8-22 series thermal platesetter. This technology allows for the production of its printing plates without the use of harsh chemicals. In addition, an Agfa workflow system enables an automated Web-to-print application, permitting customers to easily upload print-ready PDF files to Fort Orange Press. This workflow process is also supplemented with high-resolution Epson digital color proofing, which is fingerprinted to the Komori press workflow.

The company is in the final stages of a complete redesign of its corporate offices, located at Eleven Sand Creek Rd. in Albany, NY, including a brand new, upscale customer lounge and meeting center with state-of-the-art technology—including Wi-Fi, flat screen monitors and mezzanine glass windows for observation of production processes.

Fort Orange Press anticipates an open-house to showcase their investments in Spring 2011.
