Fala Completes Relocation, Expansion

December 1999
Melville, NY—Fala Graphics, the full-service printing division of The Fala Group, a direct mail production resource headquartered in Farmingdale, NY, has announced the completion of its relocation to a new facility here. The move to the 50,000-square-foot building also included the installation of its 10-color Quantum-1500 variable-size UV offset press manufactured by Sanden Machine.

Additionally, the move facilitated the upgrading and expansion of Fala Graphics' existing systems to include new workstations, cross-platform networking and ISDN-file transfer technology.

Notes Fala Graphics General Manager Bill Canfield: "We are now fully-equipped and in an excellent position to meet a wide range of printing needs from continuous forms and web printing, to the management of sheet-fed projects. The Quantum-1500, in particular, gives us a cutting-edge performance with its operating speeds of up to 1,500 feet per minute and full-computerization, affording digital job storage and retrieval, and reduced makeready times for reprints. As a result of our broader capabilities, The Fala Group has further advanced its mission to provide seamless, fully integrated and cost-competitive direct mail production services."

Currently, Fala Graphics employs 40 staff members ranging from project managers and quality control specialists to press operators. They join the estimated 500 total employees of The Fala Group.

What's ahead for Fala Graphics? "As the printing industry continues on a high-tech path, we expect to further lead in other advanced applications," adds Canfield. "For instance, we are planning to digitize our pre-press operations, which would give us a complete computer-to-plate capability. Our goal is to continually enhance project quality, operational performance and customer service."

Fala Graphics' recent expansion and new technology reflects that of the overall Fala Group. The 83-year-old organization relocated its headquarters at the end of 1998 to a 150,000-square-foot building. It houses the organization's pre-sort and commingling mail operations, Fala Sorting Services and Fala International Mail, as well as the volume mail operations of its flagship company, Fala Direct Marketing.
