EU Services Now Powered with 100 Percent Renewable Electricity

SAN FRANCISCO—Nov. 9, 2012—Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) announced that EU Services, a direct mail printer and services provider in Rockville, MD, has joined the Green-e Marketplace after purchasing enough certified renewable energy certificates from U.S.–based generation to meet 100 percent of the total annual electricity needs for its printing facility and headquarters. By participating in Green-e Marketplace, EU Services can display the Green-e logo to inform its customers of its commitment to clean, renewable energy.

To reduce its environmental footprint, EU Services also offers its clients a wide range of papers for printing, including recycled, chlorine free, and Sustainable Forestry Initiative and Forest Stewardship Council certified papers. It uses soy or vegetable oil lithographic inks, has made a significant investment in energy-saving lighting systems, and installed a cool roof. In 2012, the company received the “Continued Excellence in Recycling Award” for successfully recycling more than 97 percent of its waste stream.

By offering its customers printing and paper that has been sourced from renewable energy, EU Services can use the Green-e logo on printed materials through the Green-e re:print program. This program promotes renewable electricity in the print supply chain by granting use of the Green-e logo to organizations that source both their paper and printing through Green-e Marketplace Certified printers and paper lines.

EU Services joins a growing list of companies and organizations taking real action to reduce the impact of their energy use. Electricity generated from renewable sources results in less environmental waste and pollution and displaces other non-renewable sources from the electric grid.

The company’s purchase of electricity created from nearly emissions-free renewable sources avoids carbon dioxide and other pollutants and serves to build the market for renewable energy nationwide, increasing incentives for developing new facilities. Currently, renewable energy accounts for less than ten percent of total electricity generation nationwide.
