Edwards Brothers Malloy Adds Offset and Digital Presses to Boost Its Four-Color Capacity

November 29, 2012
ANN ARBOR, MI—Nov. 29, 2012—For more than a century, Edwards Brothers Malloy has been a leader in one- and two-color book manufacturing. With the purchase of a 40" Heidelberg Speedmaster sheetfed offset press dedicated to four-color work, the company can now offer book and journal color printing in runs from one to 3,000 copies. The Heidelberg offset press is expected be fully operational by the middle of January 2013.

Edwards Brothers Malloy is also adding capacity to its four-color digital fleet with the installation of two new digital presses—a fourth Kodak NexPress that is being installed at its Ann Arbor plant and a Xerox iGen4 being installed in the company’s digital book center in Oxnard, CA. The company will produce four-color books in both soft- and hard-cover formats in a variety of bind styles and text stocks.

“We’ve had great success printing four-color books in our digital print centers, but had to turn down four-color offset book work because we weren’t set up to handle it,” reveals John Edwards, president and CEO. “By adding a four-color offset press and increasing our digital color capacity, we can now accommodate four-color runs from one copy up to 3,000. It just made sense to be able to offer this additional service to our customers.”

With the largest fleet of Timsons offset web presses in North America, a full complement of sheetfed presses, and nine digital print centers located in the United States and the U.K., Edwards Brothers Malloy can offer the right press for each stage of a book’s life cycle, delivering more than 100 million high-quality books and journals a year.
