Newspaper Closing Commercial Printing Shop

December 7, 2012
RIVERSIDE, CA—The Press-Enterprise newspaper announced it is closing down SoCal Commercial Printing, a subsidiary commercial printing operation that had been servicing the community for about 25 years. The closure, effective Dec. 28, will leave 47 workers without jobs.

Ed Lasak, the Press-Enterprise's vice president of finance, cited the economic downturn and the rise in digital publications reducing orders for printed materials.

Customers are being referred to San Dieguito Printing, a 73-year-old, family-owned print shop based in San Marcos, CA. The Press-Enterprise has entered into a partnership with San Dieguito for its printing needs. The impacted SoCal Commercial Printing employees are being encouraged to apply for jobs with San Dieguito, which will be expanding to handle the new customers, the newspaper said.

The Press-Enterprise has operated SoCal Commercial Printing since 1989, when it purchased the business from Corona Commercial Printing.
