Contract Worker Killed in Conveyor Accident

June 2007
CHICAGO—A temporary contract laborer working in a pressroom at the Chicago Tribune died May 26 when a conveyor accident resulted in his body being severed.

Isaiah Shannon, 44, was found caught in a conveyor at roughly 10:30 a.m., the paper reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death has been ruled an accident by Chicago police.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the accident occurred on the first floor of the Freedom Center plant at a lift used to transfer printed papers on wooden pallets. Shannon, who was cleaning machinery, apparently had gotten under the lift and was crushed.
