Smith's Printing Shuttering After 50-Plus Years

March 1, 2013
CAMBRIDGE, MD—Smith's Printing, a staple of this community for more than half a century, is closing its doors with the retirement of owner Clifford Collison, according to the Dorchester Banner. Collison, who has worked at Smith's for 54 years, will shut down the shop at the end of March or beginning of April.

The establishment was founded by Vivian "Pip" Smith and his wife, Hilda, in 1955. Collison joined the company in 1959, and when Pip Smith passed away in 1988, Collison managed it for two years before purchasing it from Hilda Smith, according to the newspaper.

Smith's Printing has produced business stationery, church bulletins and event programs, among other items, the Banner reported. When Collison informed customers that he would be closing soon, orders began to flood in, pushing back the closure date.

Friends and customers have arranged for a reception March 24 at the Cambridge Yacht Club from 3 to 5 p.m., the paper said.
