ENGLEWOOD—Aviation chart, data and operational tools provider Jeppesen (a subsidiary of The Boeing Co.) has installed a new, 30˝ HP T300 color inkjet web press to produce oversize charts in-house. Jeppesen added six rollfed HP Indigo W7200 digital presses in 2010.


NEWARKModern Mail has launched a cross-media advertising campaign to spotlight the diverse marketing communications services it now offers. The company is featuring a YouTube video that offers participants a “Behind the Scenes” look at Modern Mail’s expanded digital marketing services. Specific channel components also include additional social media platforms, direct mail, Web and e-mail.


CHICAGORR Donnelley’s Senatobia, MS, and Lynchburg,VA, production facilities have been recertified with Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Status by the Occupational and Safety Health Administration (OSHA), signifying best safety practices, an exceptional safety record and continuous improvement.

HARWOOD HEIGHTS—An integrated Media Solutions Group has been formed by FCL Graphics to provide cross-media solutions to marketers. This includes the integration of direct mail, e-mail, mobile, Web, QR codes, and other media to deliver relevant and personalized messages.


SIMPSONVILLENeff Packaging Solutions is the first U.S. company to install the latest generation of Heidelberg’s Prinect Image Control spectral color measurement and quality control system. It is being used primarily with the company’s new eight-color Speedmaster CD 102 UV press in a double coating configuration.


MALDEN—A new five-color, 24x29˝ Komori Lithrone SX 29 has been chosen by The Print House to help expand its capabilities into new markets, such as signage and packaging, which require larger sheet size capabilities. The press also features an automatic plate-changing system and an advanced interface system, which allows for quick makereadies and a reduction of paper waste.


ST. PAUL—Two new Inca Onset S40 wide-format inkjet printers have been installed at Vomela Specialty here to handle its growing point-of-purchase business. The company is the first North American printer to own and operate the entire suite of Inca Onset large-format inkjet printers manufactured by Inca and distributed by Fujifilm.


FAIRBURYMcBattas Packaging & Printing has just completed an expansion that includes $1 million worth of new equipment for its new short-run packaging operation. New equipment purchased included a Xerox iGen4 digital press with packaging retrofit, a Kongsberg diecutter, a Moll Versa Fold folder/gluer and a Rapidx Memjet digital printer with Axxis finisher.


CLIFTONSandy Alexander will become a beta site for the new HP Indigo 10000 B2-format digital press. The system will be operational this fall at its carbon-neutral digital printing facility, and will be powered with 100 percent wind energy. The HP Indigo 10000 will be complemented by an HP Indigo W7200 digital web press and another HP Indigo 10000. Concurrently, the company will also expand its content management offerings for personalized communications.

MAHWAH—A new marketing services and logistics division, GlobalSoft Innovations, has been formed by GlobalSoft Digital Solutions.


ALBANY—NELA has entered into an agreement with the Times Union to provide two VCP vision punch-bending systems for a press project that will be completed in the first quarter of 2013. Each system will consist of a VCP punch bender for multiple web widths, a blank plate feeder, a four-position stacking system and a VPN connection for remote support. Barcode scanners will enable the Times Union to track and sort plates by publication for the new four-tower KBA Commander CL web press that will be installed at its facility later this year.

ISLIPAmerican Signcrafters, a signage company specializing in national bank conversions and re-branding restaurants, retail stores and other global businesses, has received an investment from Hudson Ferry Capital to help broaden its geographic coverage and expand into adjacent market segments.

ROCHESTERHammer Packaging purchased its third Muller Martini press at drupa to handle shrink-sleeve orders. The VSOP web offset press features nine printing units, an additional flexo unit, plus hot air and EB drying systems.

STATEN ISLAND—During its 11th annual marketing education seminar held May 23 at the New York Athletic Club, Prompt Mailers unveiled a new corporate branding. It includes its name change to Prompt Direct, along with a new company logo and plans to launch a new Website this summer.

WESTBURYSir Speedy of Westbury/Hauppauge/Melville has acquired Massapequa, NY-based Performance Printing & Graphics’ book of business, including a variety of local corporate clients. Kevin Kimchy, former owner of Performance Printing & Graphics, will stay on with Sir Speedy as a production and relationship manager.


ASHEVILLE—A new Xerox Color 800 press acquired through Fujifilm is now operating at The Daniels Group. The Xerox 800 offers optional clear dry ink to apply spot or flood creative effects to jobs. The Daniels Group is calling this special feature “Frost.”


UNIVERSITY PARKPenn State University’s Multimedia & Print Center (MPC) has placed an order for a Presstek 52DI digital offset press. 


PAWTUCKET—The U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce presented The MATLET Group President and CEO Gary Stiffler with a Fast 50 Asian American Business Award during its CelebrAsian 2012 Conference on June 5. The MATLET Group was nominated by The Walt Disney Co. and UPS.


HOUSTON—The addition of new Metrix automated job planning and imposition software at Southwest Precision Printers has allowed the company to reassign 10 percent to 15 percent of prepress resources elsewhere within the company.


BECKLEY—Since installing a Heidelberg-supplied Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition digital press, Central Printing can now produce its digital printing projects in-house, generating additional work from existing and walk-in customers. The Ricoh Pro C901 is the shop’s first digital machine.
