Bobst Providing Bindery Direction
ROSELAND, NJ—Intrigued by barbecues under the stars, a car show and rally—and yes, let’s not forget binding and finishing gear—roughly 450 people from 171 different plants made their way here for the Direction ’06 Open House sponsored by Bobst Group USA.
The show, held September 21-26 at Bobst’s Demonstration and Training Center, showcased the company’s folding carton and commercial printing solutions for customers and prospects alike. A total of nine Bobst technologies were on display. On the commercial printing end, diecutters such as the SPanthera 106-LER, SPeria 106-E and the SPrintera 145-PER drew attention from visitors, along with the SPeria Foilmaster 102.
Jerry Banks, bindery and converting manager for Cadmus Communications’ Charlotte, NC, facility, eyed the SPeria 106-E for diecutting plastic. From the folder-gluer side, he was checking out the Alpina 110 II A-3 with Cartonpack, noting that he already has two such items.
Representatives from RR Donnelley were also seen inspecting the SPanthera 106-LER.
Also adorning the show floor were two dozen industry partners and suppliers whose products mesh with Bobst’s technology.
Over the weekend, visitors were treated to evening barbecues. The Bobst Motor Sports Club showcased their classic cars and street rods on Saturday, and followed it up with a Sunday car rally.
Web Facility Sees Bindery Upgrade
LEBANON, OH—Quebecor World Lebanon is a web offset facility that serves the special interest magazine and catalog market. Earlier this year the plant decided to install a highly automated postpress system to handle the printed sheets from four folder deliveries of its new Goss Sunday 3000 press. The installation consists of floor and overhead conveyors, four RS 600 log stackers and two RS 400 palletizing robots supplied by RIMA-System.
The shingled streams of the four A4-deliveries are transported to four overhead conveying systems. Startup, blanket washing and splicer waste is ejected by divert gates in front of the overhead systems. It is possible to switch between the lines so the log stackers can act as backup for each other.
