Bankrupt Church Envelope Manufacturer Is Acquired

HUNTINGTON, IN—Our Sunday Visitor, a Catholic, not-for-profit producer of parish offering envelopes based here, has acquired the assets of American Paper Group (APG), a major envelope producer located in Youngstown, OH.

Our Sunday Visitor entered into an agreement with the owners of American Paper Group to purchase the assets of the company out of bankruptcy. American Paper Group, parent of American Church, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Nov. 6, 2002. The bankruptcy reorganization was filed to facilitate the sale of the company.

Kyle Hamilton, president of the offering envelope division of Our Sunday Visitor, says that his company plans to offer employment to a significant number of former APG employees. American Paper Group employed 282 people at the time of the sale.

“We look forward to working with local union representatives to come to a quick agreement on a new labor contract,” he reports.

Hamilton stresses that the priorities of Our Sunday Visitor are to maintain operations, eliminate any backlogs in orders and resolve any customer service issues that may have arisen in the months leading up to the bankruptcy.

“Usually in a bankruptcy a company struggles to maintain its commitments and serve its customers. We want to address these issues immediately,” he adds.
