AlphaGraphics Joins the Fight Against Hunger
SALT LAKE CITY—June 25, 2009—If we knew our friend, family member or another loved one was hungry, we’d hurry to give them something to eat in a heartbeat, wouldn’t we? Well, for some people, hunger isn’t satisfied so quickly and it becomes a day-to-day struggle. Studies show that there are millions of Americans who are hungry or nutritionally deprived. What’s worse is health experts say those who experience hunger are likely to suffer from anxiety, depression, behavioral problems and other illnesses that could have traumatic effects on their lives.
In an effort to join the fight against hunger in the United States, AlphaGraphics, the print, graphics and marketing communications provider, has just announced a national food drive campaign. As part of “AlphaGraphics Fights Hunger”, which runs throughout the entire month of July, participating AlphaGraphics locations will collect non-perishable foods for shelters or other organizations in their communities.
“It is our responsibility to take care of those in our communities and positive efforts can lead to amazing results,” said Sharon Cook, Director of Marketing and Public Relations. “There are 11.7 million children in the country who live in households where people have to skip meals or eat less to make ends meet. That means one in every ten households lives with hunger or is at risk of hunger, according to the Bread for the World organization.”
According to Cook, food pantries, homeless shelters and other charities needing food typically receive donations during the winter holidays (November and December). By June and July, their pantries are low and they need their shelves restocked. That is why the timing of this campaign is the right help at the right time for community organizations in need.
“AlphaGraphics centers are locally owned and operated. The fact is, many of our communities currently need support in fighting hunger and we are glad our centers and their local communities are willing to help,” said Cook. “We are committed to assisting the communities where we do business, as well as doing our part to help those in other communities throughout the nation.”
