Windy City Printer Upgrades Bindery
CHICAGO—Schiele Graphics, a member of the Schiele Group, has purchased a Duplo System 4000 collator bookletmaker from Best Graphics. John Schiele, president, says that what got him excited about the machine was its ability to perform “intelligent collating,” an add-on computer and software system that enables complex collating functions involving multiple components.
MONTGOMERY—Davis Printing has reportedly become the first printer in the state to employ FM screening. Creo’s Prinergy workflow, two Intigris 800 proofers and a Trendsetter 800 Quantam are being used to produce 20 micron Staccato screening. The company plans to produce 90 percent of its products using Staccato.
CARSON—Sumi Printing & Binding has acquired a Xerox DocuColor iGen3 digital production press. The new press and the full range of Sumi’s printing, packaging and binding services were showcased to customers and prospects at an invitation-only open house at the firm’s nine-month-old, 30,000-square-foot facility in June.
Rancho Cucamonga—KBA North America has presented Faust Printing with a hand-made replica of its six-color, 41˝ Rapida 105 press that was installed in July of 2002.
SAN LUIS OBISPO—Cal Poly’s Graphic Communication department recently enhanced the quality of its digital printing and imaging education to students, thanks to contributions from Xerox Corp. and Electronics for Imaging (EFI). Xerox donated a DocuColor 2060 digital printing system, and EFI donated the raster image processor (RIP) for the press. The RIP is a Fiery EX 2000.
ATLANTIC BEACH—Dagher Printing has installed a two-color Komori Sprint 28 perfector.
SAINT PETERSBURG—The St. Petersburg Times has purchased four in-line VCP Vision PunchBending systems from NELA Ternes to work with new tool-less plate lockups for three 21-unit Goss Metroliner presses.
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS—RT & Associates has installed its second NexPress 2100 digital color press.
CAROL STREAM—Digital printer Copresco has expanded its index tabbing operations with the installation of a second Scott diecutting and laminating system and new edge reinforcing equipment. The company has also installed a Standard Horizon BQ-270 perfect binding system, pairing it with an HT-70 three-knife trimmer.
