ROCHESTER—Hammer Lithograph announced a corporate name change to Hammer Packaging. The new name encompasses under its umbrella both offset (Hammer Lithograph) and flexographic (New Frontier Packaging) print technologies.
COLUMBUS—S. Beckman Print & Graphic Solutions has added a five-color Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 perfector. This installation is part of the company's continuing growth program, which included the acquisition of a four-color Hamada press and a Fujifilm Luxel V-6 CTP system.
OKLAHOMA CITY—Impressions Printing has purchased a four-color Heidelberg Printmaster PM 52 sheetfed perfector and a Prosetter 52 platesetter. The shop also has added Heidelberg consumable products with the Prosetter 52, including Saphira Violet aluminum plates, Saphira Violet Pro chemistry and proofing paper.
WARMINSTER, PA—Old York Road Printing, a full-service commercial printer, recently purchased a Vijuk-G&K V-18 FL2 miniature/commercial folding system. Owner Charles Pitt says he decided to bring miniature folding in-house with this machine to increase the company's pharmaceutical leaflet and miniature folding business.
COLUMBIA—Midlands Technical College is now using a Heidelberg Prosetter 52 to train students on real-world commercial printing technology. The Commercial Graphic Communications department now uses computer-to-plate imaging systems and has eliminated film and stripping from its shop. Currently enrolling approximately 40 students, the department produces strictly educational work. Midlands Tech uses Heidelberg consumable products, including Saphira Violet plates, Saphira Violet chemicals and filters.
SALT LAKE CITY—Utah Paper Box's new ROLAND 700 boasts a unique configuration. It begins with a printing unit, followed by a perfector, an inline coating unit, and a double drying extension. Then six more printing units appear, followed by second in-line coating unit and yet another double extension for drying.
ALTAVISTA—Mid-Atlantic Printers has installed the first fully automated Carousel ink dispensing system for cartridges in North America. The system is manufactured by Vale-Tech in the UK and sold by Hue Color Systems.
