Midwestern Printer Garners High Honor

WASHINGTON, DC—The International Cooperation for the Integration of Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress (CIP4) announced the first winner of the CIP4 International Print Production Innovation (CIPPI) award. In the category of "best cost/benefit realization as a result of process automation implementation," the application of Action Printing of Fond du Lac, WI, was selected by the CIP4's advisory board.

BURBANK—Merisel Inc., a graphic solutions provider, has acquired Los Angeles-based Crush Creative, a provider of digital imaging solutions. The acquisition partners Crush with ColorEdge Visual, a New York City-based commercial graphics and imaging center, and Comp24, a comp production company.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD—recently added a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 press with coater. This press slots nicely between its existing Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 and Speedmaster 52, which are also both six-color presses with coater.

DOVER—Tensor Group has installed a T-400BE four-high at The Dover Post. The weekly newspaper group purchased the tower to expand color capabilities on an existing Heidelberg (Goss) Mercury press. The paper has also added three CC1 eXaminer automatic register control systems on three presses.

NEWARK—Foxfire Printing has implemented e-procurement solutions from Printable Technologies. It will give Foxfire the capabilities to offer its clients specialized, print-specific orders, quote and asset management, and workflow solutions.

NILES—Imagine Print Group is now running a new eight-color Komori Lithrone LS press with coater.

ST. CHARLES—Folding carton manufacturer CartonCraft has signed an agreement to fully implement CRC Information Systems' THE System business management software.

OLATHE—The Leslie Co. has installed an Agfa Galileo VE computer-to-plate platesetter, Sherpa digital color proofing system and Apogee workflow management system.

massachusetts

BOSTON—A new five-color Komori Lithrone 28 press with coater has been purchased by Advanced Media Publications.

LOWELL—King Printing is now utilizing a short-run DGR casing-in line to bolster the company's existing book manufacturing capabilities. It is reportedly the first machine of its type in the United States.

michigan

ANN ARBOR—Book printer Malloy Inc. announced the acquisition of its eighth Timson web press. The new press, which the firm refers to as T8, is a Timson ZMR press capable of running both one- and two-color, 11˝ books. It will be delivered in the spring of 2006 and is expected to be up and running in May.

ROCKFORD—Wynalda Litho now has a new six-color Komori Lithrone 20 press in operation.

SALINE—McNaughton & Gunn observed the 30th anniversary of the company's incorporation in August. The week-long celebration culminated with a company picnic. McNaughton & Gunn was originally formed in 1975 by five partners from various book manufacturing companies in the Ann Arbor area. President Bob McNaughton is the only one of the original founders still with the company.
